His professional/research career includes - Director (Tech), Environmental Solutions (2001- 03), Project Manager (Environmental Pollution Monitoring Project), Royal Commission for Yanbu & Jubail, KSA (1998-99), Guest Faculty, Cochin University of Science & Technology (1993-98), Research Specialist in Fishery Oceanography, Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, Kuwait (1986-90), Senior Scientist, Center for Earth Science Studies (1981-86), Monbusho Fellow, Ministry of Education, Gov. of Japan (1976-81) and Scientific Assistant, National Institute of Oceanography, India (1972-75). He has more than 75 research publications and has participated in several national and international conferences dealing with different aspects of Marine Sciences . Dr. Joseph has organized International training course in Marine Sciences, Fisheries and acted as Organizing / Technical Committee member for many Regional/International Scientific Conferences in Marine Sciences & Fisheries.
Research interests: Marine Environmental Monitoring, Wetland ecology, Marine pollution, Modeling of Coastal Processes, Coastal Oceanography and Coastal Zone Management studies and Bio diversity studies.

DR. K. SHADANANAN NAIR

Ph. D (Meteorology) from the Cochin University of Science & Technology , India . Received advanced training in Hydrometeorology from WMO and in Watersheds and Coastal Zone Simulation from UNESCO. Dr. Nair has more than 16 years' experience in research/ teaching in Climatology, Hydrometeorology and Water Resources Management and in supervising 8 post-graduate theses. Dr. Nair has participated in water partnership programme and several international conferences as presenter, keynote speaker and chair. He is associated with the research programme of WMO as the member of the working group for monsoon system studies of CEOP/GEWEX/WCRP. Published more than 25 research papers and several popular articles.
Recipient of fellowship from DST, CSIR & UGC for research programmes in the Cochin University of Science & Technology and from WMO, UNESCO, ERECON, Japan Foundation, DFID and NASA for overseas programmes. Also has received the scientist's travel award of the Wetlands Society.
Dr. Nair is member of (1) International Association of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS), (2) INCEDE network, Japan, (3) International Environmental Modelling and Software Society, (iEMSS) Germany, (4) World Association of Soil and Water Conservation (WASWC), Thailand, (5) Advisory Council, Information Technology Professionals' Forum, Kochi (chapter of United Network International, Switzerland ), (6) Panel of Experts, Coastal Consultants' Consortium, Amrita Institutions, Kochi , (7) Indian Institute of Scientific Heritage (IISH), Thiruvananthapuram, (8) The Deccan Geographical Society (former member of the Executive Council), Pune. He also serves as the Secretary, District Chapter of the Forestry Board, Kottayam, and Secretary, Kalagramam arts, science and cultural society, Vaikom.

Dr. Bava holds Ph.D in Marine Geology from the CochinUniversity of Science & Technology, India . Received advanced training in Geological mapping and in analytical techniques & instrumentation in water quality management. He has more than 1 4 years research experience in Environmental Mar ine Geochemistry ( Including 5 years as STA Fellow at Geological Survey of Japan and Research Fellow at National Institute of Environmental Studies, Japan ) and eight years' teaching experience in Marine Geology and Environmental Geology at post-graduate level. Participated in long oceanic cruises in Indian Ocean and Japan Sea and participated in Environmental pollution studies. Excellent skill in Data interpretation and also in Geochemical analysis using latest equipments and software, and has published several papers in reputed International journals and has participated in several International Conferences. Besides publication in peer reviewed scientific journals, written many popular articles on Science and Environment in newspapers and magazines to popularize the science and environmental awareness. He has organized seminars and discussions on various fields of Marine Sciences and was an active social worker.

Dr. Peter holds a Ph. D in Physical Oceanography from the Cochin University of Science & Technology. He has 15 years of research and teaching experience in Physical Oceanography in the Cochin University of Science & Technology , India . In addition to the fellowship and Associateship from agencies such as DST and UGC, Dr. Peter received Post-doctoral Fellowship of the Japan Science and Technology Agency in1994 (worked at National Research Institute of Far Seas Fisheries, Shimizu, Japan) and the long-term invitation fellowship of the Japan Society for Promotion of Science (JSPS) in 2004 (worked as Visiting Researcher, Ocean Eddy Dynamics Division, Research Institute for Applied Mechanics, Kyushu University for ten months) . He has participated in several national/international conferences, received advanced training in Geophysical Fluid Dynamics from UNESCO. Research Interests:
Ocean dynamics and variability studies- on time scales of seasonal to interannual. Working with hydrographic, drifter and satellite observations to quantify the oceanic motion and its variability statistics to suggest the origin, mechanisms and dynamical consequences of this variability.

Dr. K. Ajith Joseph
Consultant Scientist |
Ph D in Physical Oceanography from the Cochin University of Science and Technology , India . Received advanced training in remote sensing from Mohn-Sverdrup Centre for Global Oceanography, Norway . Presently on sabbatical from Nansen Environmental Research Centre (India) to implement a project on Ocean colour application studies on the biogeo constituents in the coastal and estuarine waters of Greater Kochi region in the SW coast of India, in the Department of Physical Oceanography, Cochin University of Science and Technology. Prior to his service as Scientist in the Nansen Environmental Research Centre (NERCI, India ), he had worked as Senior Research Fellow under the Government of India (Ministry of Environment) funded project in the same department. At the Nansen Centre he was instrumental in constituting an International Scientific Research Advisory Board with distinguished scientists in the field of Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences to provide an impetus to environmental and earth sciences research and applications in India through local capacity building as well as increased regional and global co-operation. He has been in the stages of initiating many international collaborative research programmes in ocean environmental studies of Indian Ocean region with outstanding research centres, arranged training programmes of NERCI in mathematical modelling and remote sensing applications and organized an international conference on Coastal System Variability. He has been teaching and guiding research at post-graduate level in the Department of Physical Oceanography of CUSAT for the last several years.
He is the recipient of University Grants Commission's ( India ) Junior Research Fellowship, Berkner Travel fellowship of American Geophysical Union (AGU) and DST-Fast Track Young Scientist fellowship by Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
Dr. Ajith Joseph has about 19 publications in national/international journals and in the proceedings of national/international conferences. He has participated and presented research outputs in several international national/conferences with the sponsorship of International and Multilateral funding agencies.
