Dr. K. Ajith Joseph

Dr. K. Ajith Joseph is an Executive member of CEREM and also works as a full time Principal scientist and Executive Director at Nansen Environmental Research Centre - India (NERCI), a non profit Scientific and Industrial research Organisation recognised by Ministry of Science and Technology for environment and climate research (http://www.nerci.in) and Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies, based in Cochin. He has a Doctorate in Physical Oceanography from Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) in 1998. He joined NERCI as a  Scientist in 2000 and at CEREM in 2004. He is the  project manager of  many international projects and currently the Co-investigator of Ministry of Earth Sciences Co- funded project “Ocean observations and Indicators for Climate and Assessments”, under agreed funding mechanism  between Ministry of Earth Sciences and European Union in the framework of INDIA-EU Science and Technology Cooperation in which 19 partner institutes from Europe are involved. He is also currently coordinating an ISRO funded project Oceansat 3 cal/Val programme and a Research Council of Norway (RCN) funded projects in India URSAMAJOR. He is a recognised research guide at the faculty of Ocean Science and Technology and also at the Faculty of Ocean Engineering of KUFOS. He is the Course Coordinator, Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (ISRO) Outreach and distance learning programme at NERCI. He  participated in an adventurous cruise on a  tall and oldest Norwegian Sailing ship  along the Mozambique channel and Agulhas stream in the south Indian Ocean as part of One Ocean Expedition in 2023 supported by Research council of Norway, UNESCO, Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) to create attention and share knowledge about the crucial role of the ocean for a sustainable development in a global perspective. He has more than 75 publications in referred and indexed journals and proceedings and has guided around 18 master students and currently four doctoral students are working under his guidance at KUFOS. He is Life Member of the Ocean Society of India, Indian Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing and Indian Meteorological Society.
