Dr. Nair, PhD in Hydrometeorology from the Cochin University of Science & Technology. Received advanced training in water management from UNESCO/MASHAV, Israel, Coastal Zone Management from UNESCO/ICTP and water economics from IWMI. He also serves as Visiting Faculty in Universities inside and outside India. He has participated in more than 150 international events, served as jury for presentation awards and chaired several sessions. He is referee for five international journals. He was part of several international programmes including Comprehensive Enhanced Observation programme (WMO), Comprehensive Enhanced Water Cycle Experiment (WMO) and working group member of research programmes related to Climate Change, Forest and Marine Water and Waste Water. He has worked as Consultant for the World Bank in Urban Hydrology Project. He has more than thirty years of experience in research, teaching and research supervision.
His area of interests are: climate change and natural resources, climate change and hydrological extremes, urban climate, wetlands, climate and water policy, water resources management, coastal zone management, transboundary water conflicts, water related socio-economic issues associated with climate change and climate induced migration. He is member of thirty-one international organizations and a dozen national organizations. He has published 151 research papers and three reports and contributed to the chapters in encyclopaedia and comprehensive book on water published by UNESCO/IAHS. He was part of "Indian Knowledge system " and traditional practices in water management, environmental protection and weather observation and forecasting.
Dr. K. Shadananan Nair is currently working as Executive Secretary & Director of Research of the Centre for Earth Research and Environment Management, non-profit research Institution and also as Consultant Scientist of NERCI, regional research Centre of the Norway based NERSC. Dr. Nair has more than thirty years’ experience in teaching and research and has published around 150 articles in journals, more than 500 articles in conference proceedings, twelve reports and several articles in popular media.
He is reviewer of International Journal of River Basin Management (Taylor&Francis), International Journal of Climate Change Strategies and Management (Emerald), Frontiers of Environmental Science and Engineering (Springer),International Journal of Environmental Pollution and Remediation (AVESTIA Publishing), project proposal submitted to International agencies and several online publications. He is member of 30 international research organizations and seven national organizations. He was part of many international research programmes and has visited more than 100 countries.
